Calcium Scoring

What is calcium scoring?

Calcium scoring is a procedure involving the use of our 64-slice CT to determine the level of calcium in the coronary artery. The presence of calcium in the coronary artery is a sign of coronary artery disease (CAD). By catching CAD early through calcium scoring, preventative measures can be taken to reduce the risk of a heart attack and sudden cardiac death.

Who should consider having a calcium scoring test?

While calcium scoring can be a lifesaver, it isn’t a screening that just anybody should consider. Only individuals who are at risk for CAD should consider a calcium scoring procedure. Risk factors include smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, family history, diabetes and obesity.
